Not every program that is held at Pretty Pony Pastures can get a grant to continue. But, the teacher at Patterson Elementary School heard about the Brooksie Grant that is offered by Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson. These children, in the Special Education class, have been riding here since fall 2008. Even though they do a variety of fund raisers to secure money for the riding program, they often fall short. The Brooksie Grant could cover one five-week session of riding lessons.
The committee that awards the grants looks for activities that support the promotion of healthy and active lifestyles. Riding a horse certainly fits that description. Here is the video that was made after Patterson Elementary riders won the grant.
If you are available for five weeks in the fall and/or five weeks in the spring, give us a call. We can always use more volunteers to lead or side walk these young riders.
